An out of practice reader discussing the books I get around to reading.
It's interesting. For my creative writing thesis class, everyone had to choose 6 novels that they would read over the course of a semester to serve as references for their final work. For example, my story was about a serial killer so I read I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells to get some ideas of how to write a serial killer. Anyway, where I'm going with this is one of my classmates used this book as one of her references and I can really see the influences this book had on her final work. So that's kind of cool, getting a whole new perspective on her story.
I have to say, I'm not super liking this one. I'm not disliking it, I'm just sort of meh about it. There are a lot of descriptions and I'm not super big on description heavy stories, especially the way this one goes about it. It's not a bad book and I can totally see why people love it so much. I just don't think it's my kind of story.
We'll have to see. There's still plenty left to read.
